Colin had a very varied musical upbringing which gave him a vast amount of experience.  He was the youngest member of the band and had a higher certificate in music theory.

Colin heard about the band after meeting up again with Alan Ross on a trip to Newquay.  He was told about a rock n roll gig that was starting up at the Four Burrows Grampound and was eventually asked to join the band.

Colin is currently still working as a professional musician in London.

"He was one of the best musicians I have ever worked with, technically a terrific musician"  - Alan Ross 2011

"He was just such a gifted musician, really wonderful.  Spike should have been a major contender in the music business.  He had an amazingly good ear."

"He was a genius"
Alan Ross 2011

"I have known and worked with Spike on and off since we were in our twenties.  He was the most respected and revered musician I have ever worked with over the years and I have worked with many, many different artists and musicians."

Alan originally moved down from London in the early seventies.  During his musical career Alan has worked with most of the local musicians.  Playing everything from Jazz to Pop to backing cabaret and several well known comedians

Alan is to be credited with starting SHADES as it was his original idea.

"It is not known to too many people that Alan has a very inventive mind and is also a brilliant cartoonist.  When we were on the road with SHADES whilst travelling, he used to draw these fantastic cartoons of the character known as Ted Bear in various situations that the band found themselves in."

Mike Drums for Shades - Cornish Guardian Article from 1977

Readers in the West Country probably saw SHADES Rock and Roll band on Westward Diary recently.  Their drummer is Mike Bunt, mobile plant driving instructor at ECLP's North Goonbarrow Training Centre.

All four members of the band were playing in different groups until they met at a 'jam session' at the Four Burrows pub at Grampound Road and discovered their mutual love and enthusiasm for rock and roll.  Mike at this time was the resident drummer at the Jazz Club in St Austell.

The band have a large following some of whom wear thick crepe soled shoes or winkle pickers, drapes and string ties and slick hair but surprisingly perhaps most are teenagers certainly not old enough to remember the original rock and roll era.

Apart from their appearance on local television the band have been guests on BBC Radio One's It's Only Rock n Roll, and recently went to London where they made a disc under the Domino label entitled SHADES - Sunglasses After Dark.  At Least one track is a group original and the record is due to be on sale in the shops at the end of March.  Whilst in London they had the opportunity of playing in the Old Maypole pub which is renowned for rock and roll music.

The band have also been offered tours of the Continuent and London.
